Sam’s Club 6×6″ Mini Photo Calendar

Hi there everyone I decided to try some of Sam’s Club’s photo print items.  I’m still using Costco for my big books and other photographic prints, but Sam’s Club actually offers a bunch more items in different sizes and options.  So like most things in life, it’s useless to argue one brand over another, if you can, just partake of all the advantages different companies give us.

I’m waiting for my 8×8″ books and other prints to come in, but these 6×6″ calendars came in today, literally two days after I placed the order.  So here are my quick thoughts on them:

• Pretty good quality for $7.86

• It’s not a glossy photography print on Fujifilm Crystal Archive, this is closer to a laserjet print on a greeting card level of paper stock

• The gradations in tones are okay in far viewing, but upon close viewing you can see the halftone pattern

• The further jpeg compression in their online software does make images a bit more “mushier.”  If you really want to be critical it looks as if there was a higher dpi level they could have selected, but I’m sure that’s not done from an economical point of view.

• From a color standpoint looks pretty good and close to me.  I chose to uncheck the automatic color correction as always for both Sam’s Club and Costco.

• You can’t make the image full bleed, and the image does encroach the spiral bound area.  If you really want to be visually even, you’d have to add about 1/4″ white border just on the bottom of your image. (or just use another non square template)

• Nit picking but it looks like in the calendar portion the whole block could stand to be moved up at least 1/4″-3/8″ to not have so much white space under the spiral, and also get away from the hole punch. (maybe it was a mistake just on my orders)

• There are an extra two pages at the end; one white blank one, and one “print receipt”

Other than that I’m not going to complain much about another neat affordable photo project I can give as keepsakes to friends and family. (And yes, they are coming from Greenwood SC as well!)
