ZNO Little Layflat Book Samples

Hello everyone, I ordered several of the new Little Layflat Books from ZNO last week.  I use this company for many of my print projects.  They came in quite fast via DHL and I wanted to give my thoughts on this new size product.

The new “mini” books are 6×6″ (15x15cm) and bigger than a CD case.  It’s a pretty good size for the price.  You can only have one image on the front cover, and can add text to the spine of the book but can’t change the typeface.  I ordered a lot to give as keepsakes.

The print quality and resolution is very nice.  I have no complaints there.  I did order some 4×6″ prints as well, and those are definitely lower resolution.

The books are 12-24 pages max and there’s really only about 3-4 variations on layout.  Not a problem if you are going full page square in your designs, which obviously gets you the most value for your money.

The pages are real photographic prints on lustre paper, and even though they are thick, all of my books have pages that are warped and wavy when you view them from the side.  When you’re flipping through the book normally, it’s not a big problem, but just know that if you are used to the higher end flush mount books.

(Update: See below at end of post – The books have pages that should be straight, perhaps something happened during transport)

I also ordered a 10×10″ Slim Photo book.  It’s basically the larger version of the new smaller books.  These you can customize how you want.  I like the binding and the quality of the prints even at the larger size.

Again, if viewed from the side and up close you will notice the waviness of the paper.  I take it over press printed material and photo prints that curl though.

Update:

I ordered another set of the Little Layflat Books, this time featuring my dragon boat photos from 20 years, and the print quality is much better in terms of the pages being flat and rigid.
