Petit Le Mans Kickoff in Suwanee:
Random Camera Photo Shoot!
Suwanee, GA | Oct 8, 2024
Hello everyone, the folks at Road Atlanta were kind enough to bring the race cars into Town center last week again and of course I was there to marvel at the impressive machines and take a few photos. For next time I wonder if the New Town Center Park right across the street would be an interesting change.
It’s definitely more industrial and futuristic looking. Logistically it might be a bit more challenging to maneuver all the big semi trucks though.
Some Pics of the new park if anyone hasn’t seen it already:

Back to the actual PLM Kickoff recap. For random events in our backyard I always think about what interesting bonus cameras I could bring along to practice with, or just spice things up with their imaging characteristics, quirkiness, novelty, or difficulty level of use. Just to be different in a sea of other photographers that really only care about the newness of a particular body and not even the lens, which as most know is the true differentiator in initial visual impact.
Here’s what I brought on Tuesday:
Canon R8 + 85mm 1.2 • Fuji GFX 50S + Nikon 50mm 1.8 • Fuji Instax Square • Nikon J1 + 10mm 2.8 • Ancient iPhone 3GS!! • (Not Pictured: Digital Harinezumi!)
Which one did the best job? Let’s see! (For photo nerds I’ll put what took the picture in the caption)

The theme for Suwanee Fest this year was the 1980’s. While covering the parade I was kicking myself that I forgot to bring my VHS-C camera to really add to the aesthetic. Not that I would have used it much since it is so bulky, but it would have archived those vibes for sure. For the PLM kickoff I dusted off the Digital Harinezumi, a toy camera from Japan. It’s “legendary” in that it has an old lo-fi flip phone video aesthetic that sometimes comes pretty close to what some *think* VHS home movies looked like. (This little toy camera is also surprisingly rare and $$ on the used market)

Big thanks to Britney and Annie for the mini photo shoot! I handed off the R8 and 85 to them towards the end, and sure enough they got the eye! 😉

It was a fun late afternoon/evening with great fall light! Thanks ladies (and Road Atlanta) for giving us something to look forward to on a weekday. Again, anyone can take random snapshots of events, but my mission (in life and on this website) is to show fun and photos can be done anywhere with the right outlook and mindset. Gear is only part of the recipe, and it’s always the driver and not the car! 😉
