Batavia – Doraville, GA

Doraville, GA 30340

Open Everyday from 10am – 11:30pm

I really like Indonesian food, the flavor is very similar to our own home cooking.  Batavia is great because it’s a spin on the southern “1 meat and two veggies” plate.  I always run into a familiar face getting lunch because it’s a quick and large helping for around $6-8!  If you like white rice and saucy dishes (and I do!), this a place to always keep in mind when you’re in Doraville/Chamblee.

We’ve been going there long enough for them to have remodeled and flipped the grocery portion to the opposite side.  I’ll have to pull up a better photo of the food selections later, but from memory here are some of the items I eat a lot:

Beef Rendang, Curry Chicken, Curry Tripe, Chicken Livers, Fried Chicken, Scrambled Eggs, Fried Fish

Spicy Tofu and Vegetables, Sweet and Spicy Eggplant, Sauteed Greens, Plantains

The Beef Rendang is a must try, as it’s coconutty/spicy with a gravy that you know must have been simmering for a long time.  Sometimes it can be very spicy though, but of late it’s been a medium hot.  You can also get a small condiment side of a hot sauce that reminds me of the crab paste we use in some dishes.  It is definitely pungent with a kick!

Those are just a few of the items on the quick lunch/dinner selection.  You can order off the menu as well, to get dishes like Ox Tail soup, Stir fried water spinach, and satay for a dollar!  The sweet drinks like Thai Tea and smoothies are affordable, or you can grab a drink from the grocery section.  I once had a battered and fried fermented Cassava dessert that was next level!

Rice, Fried Chicken (Asian style), Plantains, and Curry Tripe
