I draw, I take photos, I write about it.\u00a0 Thanks to the team for all the help.\u00a0 Thanks to BRC for letting me take\u00a0his ABR800 ring light out for a test drive.\u00a0 It definitely produces some\u00a0blinding light.\u00a0 Even shooting through its “portal” has a nice effect.\u00a0 As usual,\u00a0I see the resulting\u00a0images produced as pictures for\u00a0people, and just gear practice and learning exercises for me, so I can figure out what works for me personally in my kit and way of shooting.\u00a0 Photography is oftentimes more about logistics and assistance, human interactions, and creativity in steering the mood of a day, much more so than knowing a particular camera system.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Top Image: Still have to rely on the Nikon CLS system in most situations.\u00a0 Results that I want, wrapped up in a .nef raw file that I can get the most out of.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Again, these are exercises for me.\u00a0 When I’m in artist mode, I draw.\u00a0 When I’m in photography mode, I spin some wheels, click some buttons, and pull sliders and curves on the computer.\u00a0 Actually it’s a bit more complicated than that.\u00a0 Sometimes these shoots are about juggling different approaches.\u00a0 With all this lighting tech, I always make it a point to shoot at the same time natural light photos.\u00a0 I would shoot outside entirely with all natural light, but no one seems to want to brave the cold with me.\u00a0 When I do the old approach, that is, not spoiling the light by adding your own, it makes me wonder why we put up with the falling light stands and umbrellas.\u00a0 It’s like we’ve all been pressured to add lights where sometimes it\u00a0isn’t need, in hopes of getting the look photo editors are familiar with or\u00a0landing sponsorship from some lighting or camera company.\u00a0 The spirit of Bruce Lee would probably tell me a\u00a0roundhouse is unnecessary when sometimes all that is\u00a0needed is a jab.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Far from a “review” by any means, but I do like the ABR800’s\u00a0light, especially when you consider the affordable price.\u00a0 Similar to a modern day Orange amp for a reasonable price compared to the larger and pricier brands.\u00a0 For most applications, it’s good enough.\u00a0 Image above is out of camera with settings preserved.\u00a0 Even shooting all the way in the back of my studiospace, the\u00a0image is bright.\u00a0 105mm f\/2.8 Micro VR at f\/16 and White Balance 5260K and ABR probably 1\/8 power.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
