Random Notes:\u00a0 Took a field trip today, and like a little person, I did learn something…this will all seem so really random…maybe it’s because spring seems to finally be here, waking up everyone from the winter doldrums, and perhaps finally setting in motion the different themes and storylines for this year…<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Met and talked with an elderly gentleman, a painter, the ink and brush variety, which was fitting with the cherry and plum trees in early bloom.\u00a0 Made me think about my own path and my current place.\u00a0 It was much like\u00a0many situations back in school, when you realize the sheer gap in age and experience between student and teacher.\u00a0 Some have been practicing their art longer than most of us have been alive.\u00a0\u00a0Us young folk\u00a0might be able to produce modern creations worthy of money or praise, but does it really amount to anything in the end?\u00a0 I thought about young artists and photographers, the ones that have followers and understudies.\u00a0 I can’t help but get discouraged\u00a0when my work is\u00a0compared to the endless sea of talent out there, as we all fish for the next gig to pay the bills or validate us as being good or relevant.\u00a0 Even the masters at dojos get defeated when pitted against each other.\u00a0 There are some that say competition in anything is pointless.\u00a0 One good thing is that, say, the tree we are all trying to one up the next person on in terms of picture making and photo taking, when we set aside those motives, it can still be appreciated by\u00a0simply seeing it.\u00a0 Perhaps that’s the zen of all art.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n On a somewhat related note, I also learned about a Native American (Cherokee) custom.\u00a0 In the old days, when a young man was interested in a girl, he and his hand-carved wooden flute would stand outside the young\u00a0lady’s home and play a song.\u00a0 If she was interested in him she would come out and\u00a0listen to\u00a0his song.\u00a0 If she had no feelings for the boy, she would stay inside.\u00a0 No one got offended or lost face.\u00a0 The young man, and all involved,\u00a0would\u00a0accept\u00a0that the Creator deemed it wasn’t meant to be in the universe.\u00a0 I like that.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Random Notes:\u00a0 Took a field trip today, and like a little person, I did learn something…this will all seem so really random…maybe it’s because spring seems to finally be here, waking up everyone from the winter doldrums, and perhaps finally setting in motion the different themes and storylines for this year… Met and talked with […]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":10429,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_feature_clip_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[141,123,18,183,113],"class_list":{"0":"post-3474","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"hentry","7":"category-photos","8":"tag-50mm-f14-ai-s","9":"tag-bokeh","10":"tag-cherry-blossoms","11":"tag-sakura","12":"tag-spring","14":"post-with-thumbnail","15":"post-with-thumbnail-large"},"aioseo_notices":[],"aioseo_head":"\n\t\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t
