Landscapes around town, with a Nikon J1 and Fuji X100.\u00a0 Great lightweight cameras for walking around, and any imaging device can get pretty pictures if the light is right.\u00a0 All these photos taken early in the morning and brisk, about 36 degrees.\u00a0 The little J1’s high image quality doesn’t surprise me at all.\u00a0 Too many people just read the specs and don’t see beyond the numbers.<\/p>\n

On the flip side, the Fuji X100 is the current “golden boy” in the camera world…that being said, I would honestly say the X100 has quite possibly the worst autofocus (and a non existent manual focus mode) of any camera I’ve ever used.\u00a0 Imagine wanting to take a picture, of oh, a person’s face a mere two feet away from the camera, and it refuses to even try to focus the image without many button presses and wasted blurry frames.\u00a0 The metering is also all over the map, and other operational quirks that are downright unacceptable.\u00a0 But I still see its potential and value.\u00a0 Not every tool has to be super easy to use.\u00a0 Jack White prefers guitars you have to fight with, and this camera will inevitably miss many shots and opportunities.\u00a0 It’s a slow paced manual exposure camera for certain types of photographers and situations, and a good, but strict, teacher.<\/p>\n
