Technical Notes: Church was well designed, with plenty of sunlight coming through the windows. Took some of the portraits with natural light, which was nice for a change not having to rely on off camera speedlights. The pastel colors reminded me of images from the ’50′s so tried to mimic that in Capture NX2. In the sanctuary however were colored lights that are causing decision making problems with the white balance. Keep the wedding dress white “correct” at the cost of making stale images, or keep some of the color cast, because the Asian blood in me likes images warm and saturated. Shooting black and white film, though, you don’t have to worry about any of that.
Was too rushed to utilize all of my gear, so pretty much used the 17-55mm and 70-200mm, which is honestly all anyone needs for the rest of their photographic life. Whenever I get the opportunity though, I like to let the 105mm 2.8 Micro VR and 85mm 1.4 go head to head. Thus far, for me, it’s the Micro hands down for portraits. It’s just a modern day lens, working in tandem with the recent software advances and current visual trends. 85mm has its place and moments, but I guess it’s like comparing cars from different decades.
